The yakuza and cops are the ones who herd foreigners to Chinese massage parlors. Until the AIDS crisis hit in the mid 80s, foreigners were able to get into any sex club they wanted. When AIDS became an issue, all foreigners were banned from J sex clubs. The hassels of dealing with foreigners and pride of the Japanese Yakuza and police have kept foreigners out of them out since the late 80s.

Thanks for writing in. The sex industry is changing all the day and slowly being moved underground. However, just because it's less visible doesn't mean it's gone.
Good luck with your research.

You might want to clarify that all this delicious screwing is off limits to anybody but the Japanese.... unless one is especially well connected or patronizes the odd sex joint that lets gaijin in. 99.99% of these Japanese sex workers wouldn't screw a gaijin if you paid them a million yen, spoke impeccable Japanese, and had Japanese citizenship. What's your take on this?

I knew a very small petite friend from High School who did make a good living as a pro-dom. I think she got tired of the cleaning bills and then general nature of the work. I wouldn't class S & M as prostitution. My apologies for a lack of clarity there.

Interesting article, but it doesn't explain why "S & M clubs" qualify as prostitution. In the US, most pro dominatrixes don't have sex with their clients. If Japanese dominatrixes have sex, then the article should specify that. And if they don't, then don't call them prostitutes. Also, in the US people don't have to pay to get whipped in S & M clubs: the type of men who pay for domination are businessmen and politicians who don't want anyone to know about their fetish.

Being a pro-dom is a great job in America and a smart way to make money if you like it.
